Educational group visits are Returns, offered to elementary, secondary, technical and higher education institutions, of an educational nature  during the school year (reservations are not made for services during high seasons such as long holidays and school holidays: January, February and July).

Appointments can be made from Monday to Friday, except on special dates, holidays and recesses.

To guarantee a place at your institution, you must book in advance, depending on availability for the desired date.

Itaipu Panoramic

Public

Groups of Elementary, Regular or Technical Level Schools and Universities. 

Path

Visit the external area of ​​the Plant, with two stops, one at Mirante Central and Mirante Vertedouro, carried out on the visiting institution's own bus and without guide service. 

Hours

Monday to Friday from 08:30 am to 16 pm (departures approximately every 30 minutes) and duration approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Itaipu Special

Public

Groups of Technical Course Schools and Universities. 

Path

Complete guided tour that visits the external area of ​​the Plant, with two stops, one at the Central Viewpoint and Spillway Viewpoint, and also visits the internal area of ​​the Plant, which includes the central control room, interior of the dam, generator gallery and power shaft one of the generating units. 

Hours

Monday to Friday, except holidays and breaks, at 08:30 am or 14 pm, limited to 40 people per group and lasting approximately 3 hours. 

Rules

Wearing shoes attached to the heel and without heels or up to 3cm in height and a minimum width of 3cm. No bags of any kind are allowed during the tour. 

Virtual Tour

Groups of Technical Level schools and Universities.

Path

Complete virtual guided tour, which visits the external area of ​​the Plant, with two stops, one at the Central Viewpoint and Spillway Viewpoint, and also visits the internal area of ​​the Plant, which includes the central control room, interior of the dam, generator gallery and axis of one of the generating units. 

Hours

From Monday to Friday, except holidays and breaks, at 08:30 am or 14 pm, limited to 40 people per group and lasting approximately 3 hours.

Itaipu Biological Refuge

Public

Groups of Elementary, Regular or Technical Level schools and Universities. 

Path

Visit that begins with a ride in the institution's own vehicle until arrival at the Biological Refuge. When you disembark, you will walk along a trail of approximately 2 km through the environmental conservation area, passing through the animal trail. 

Hours

Monday to Friday, except Tuesdays, holidays and recesses, at 8:30 am and 14:00 pm, with a limit of 42 people per time slot, lasting approximately 2h30. 

Rules

Eating on the trail is not permitted. It is recommended to use repellent, sunscreen, closed shoes and bring a bottle of water (there are drinking fountains on the route).

Itaipu goes to School (Itaipu Panorâmica and Itaipu Refúgio Biológico)

Public

Public educational institutions – CMEIs, municipal schools and state schools in Foz do Iguaçu, exclusively.

Path

Transport from Itaipu Tourism to and from the school, with the possibility of visiting Itaipu Panorâmica or Itaipu Refugio Biológico. Panoramic view: stops at the Central and Vertedouro Viewpoints. Biological Refuge: 2 km trail after bus journey. Return to school after the tour.

Hours

Itaipu Panoramic: Monday to Friday at 08:30 am or 13:30 pm (school leaving time), except holidays and recess, lasting approximately 1h15.
Itaipu Biological Refuge: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (except holidays and recess), at 08:30 am or 13:30 pm (school leaving time), lasting approximately 2:30 hours. Visits limited to a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 40 people (including students and teachers) per group.

Itaipu Ecomuseum

Path

The Itaipu Ecomuseum currently has two exhibitions on the history and construction of the Itaipu Plant. The exhibitions feature objects from the construction period, information panels, as well as interactive 3D maps. Visitation is free, requiring only registration via a form at the Ecomuseum reception.

Wednesday to Monday from 8:30 am to 16 pm lasting approximately 1 hour, self-guided.

Scheduling any of the tours above, except the Itaipu Ecomuseum, must be requested by sending a letter and list of visitors to the email reservaseducativas@turismoitaipu.com.br

 The letter must include: 

  • Desired date and time; 
  • Institution data: name and location (city and state); 
  • Visit audience (series or course, in the case of educational institutions); 
  • Total number of people; 
  • Full name and telephone number of the person responsible. 

 The Visitor List must include: 

  • Name 
  • CPF 
  • Course enrolled

If you have participated in one of the educational visits above and need to issue a document proving your visit in your name, the data listed below will need to be sent to the email: visitseducativas@turismoitaipu.com.br

We ask that you enter in the title of the email: “Name of the Institution” + “Your full name”. After sending and validating the information sent, a Visit Certificate will be generated and sent to the requester's email address.

The Itaipu Plant is located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay, along the Paraná River.
More specifically, it is located in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, in the state of Paraná, Brazil, and the city of Ciudad del Este, in Paraguay.

The history of the Itaipu Plant dates back to the 1960s, when Brazil and Paraguay signed a treaty to jointly develop the hydroelectric plant.
However, construction began in 1975 and took nine years to complete, being officially opened in 1984.
The plant is a landmark of international cooperation and plays a very important role in supplying clean and renewable energy to both countries.

The name “Itaipu” originates from the combination of the Tupi-Guarani terms: “ita' (stone), “i” (water) and “pu” (noise), poetically representing “the stone that sings through the flowing water”.
This name reflects the geographical characteristic of the region where the plant is located, close to the waterfalls and the drops in level of the Paraná River, which generate an impressive sound.

“Itaipu” is a word of Tupi-Guarani origin that means “stone that sings”.
The name reflects the plant's location near the Paraná River, known for its drops and natural sounds.

Construction of the Itaipu Plant began in 1975 and was completed in 1984.
